What are the magnetic cards of the Russian MIR system used for in Cuba?

Velasco added that work was underway so that they could soon be used at point-of-sale terminals both in exchange houses and in bank branches throughout the country. In other words, up to now no Cadeca or Cuban bank can withdraw cash from these Russian ruble cards.

At the end of March this year, the Cuban Ministry of Tourism (Mintur) confirmed through its social media that MIR cards could already be used in Cuba, a measure that was accelerated on the island following the sanctions of VISA or MasterCard against Russian citizens. Since then, rubles can be withdrawn converted into Cuban pesos, according to the exchange rate of the day.
