Authorities warn of banking scams in Cuba: users of payment platforms are warned

Authorities have issued a warning to prevent more people from becoming victims.

Users of Transfermóvil and Enzona have reported fraud attempts in which bank details are requested under false pretenses.

Frauds in online payment platforms

Scams related to e-commerce and digital payments have been increasing in Cuba.

Unscrupulous individuals contact users of state platforms such as Transfermóvil and Enzona to request confidential information, including passwords and verification codes, with the purpose of accessing their accounts.

The Popular Savings Bank has warned that no administrator of these platforms communicates privately with users or asks for banking information or transfers.

Any message of this type is fraudulent and must be reported.

Case detected in Villa Clara

The warning has been issued by the headquarters of Banco Popular de Ahorro in Villa Clara, where multiple reports about these frauds have been received.

It has been identified that the criminals operate mainly through Telegram, using fake accounts that they constantly delete and recreate to avoid being detected.

Online scams have increased in Cuba with the rise of e-commerce and currency trading in the informal market.

Cybercriminals resort to tactics such as identity theft and sending fake messages to deceive victims.

Recommendations to Avoid Fraud

The authorities have issued a series of measures to avoid falling victim to these scams:

  • Do not share personal or banking information with strangers.
  • Be wary of private messages requesting passwords or transfers.
  • Review the latest transactions in Transfermóvil before approving any movement.
  • Do not access unverified links or share verification codes.
  • Consult directly with the bank any request that seems suspicious to customers.

But they are promoting payment through Transfermóvil or Enzona all the time, and it turns out that now Enzona is blocked and you have to go to private mechanics who charge 150 CUP or more to do the download. If it is a state application, how is it that the banks cannot do the installation task and force you to go to the self-employed workers? Also, in the warehouses they say you have to pay through Enzona because the Commerce Company has forbidden them from accepting payment through Transfermóvil.
