Corruption in the sale of liquefied gas in Havana: employees caught in the siphoning of cylinders

The Liquefied Gas Company detected misappropriations and lack of control in the numbering of cylinders in several points of sale in the capital.

The entity assured that it will take disciplinary measures and will reinforce controls to avoid future irregularities.

Anomalies detected

According to the report published on the Havana government's website, the control actions revealed three specific cases of irregularities:

  • At point of sale 15023, in Cubanacán, Playa municipality, the theft of four liquefied gas cylinders was detected.
  • A similar diversion of four cylinders was reported at point of sale 16002, located at Goicuría and Espadero, municipality of 10 de Octubre.
  • At point of sale 10010, in Micro 10, Habana del Este, the numbering of cylinders was found to be out of control.

The company's management reported that disciplinary and organizational measures have been imposed at these points to restore legality.

Citizen complaints and questions

For months, the population has denounced various illicit activities related to the sale of liquefied gas, many of them reflected in social networks. The company promised to intensify controls, although several citizens expressed skepticism about these statements.

Among the comments on the official publication, some users criticized that these irregularities are not isolated cases, but symptoms of a larger problem. One Havana resident denounced that irregularities in the distribution of liquefied gas have affected the regular supply in several areas, while another pointed out that the lack of control facilitates corruption within the distribution system.

Others questioned the lack of transparency in the disciplinary measures applied, demanding to be informed if there were concrete sanctions against those responsible. "They always talk about organizational measures, but never say if anyone was actually punished," wrote one user.

While the shortage of basic commodities worsens in Cuba, reports of diversion of resources and corruption in the distribution network continue to generate outrage among the population.

  1. I think that with all these complaints they should make a deep analysis of each situation, and give answers immediately, the people need action against these criminal actions, and if the government does not act as it should and it is the one we trust, then who do we really trust? There is no one who can stand up to all these irregularities, they should put people from the PNR to control all the gas points, because there are irregularities in all of them, and the people,in spite of all the crises we are going through, are tired of the years and years of nothing ever happening, and those affected are the ones who face all these problems of disorganization and laxity every day, until when?‍♀,and today the situation is getting worse due to the lack of resources, and behind every situation there is an opportunist, that's enough.

  2. QUESTIONWe who live in the province of ARTEMISA where the blackouts are of long duration and every day and we do not have a contract to purchase gas, how do we cook?
There is no legal way to acquire fuel for food processing.
Then we are obliged to buy illegally.
There should be a free sale in the provinces that have major blackouts, which are all of them except Havana.

  3. Look if there is corruption, I was robbed of the gas cylinder, hose and regulator, where did they bring me the cylinder and the other accessories, where did they end up? I filed the complaints and I am waiting, now I am asking if the CUPET colleague who filled out the paperwork put it as it was because your company did not put the service as it is, tell me what you said.

  4. This does not only happen in Havana, it is necessary to control in Camagüey that the cylinder is sold between $14000-$45000 weight if this entity has a rigorous custodian and control as the cylinders leave these units.

  5. Here in Santiago de Cuba, in addition to the sale of illegal bullets, we already have individuals who stand in line and charge 1300 pesos for a place in line. People pay it because it is one more way to solve the problem. Many lists, many methods, much infamy and much theft and disrespect to the working people. Enough

… Basta

  7. here in santa clara, Villa clara, the same thing is happening, the deviation is incalculable, they also said they were going to solve it, but nothing, for me there are superiors who are also benefiting. this situation does not lead to disciplinary measures, they lead to legal actions such as high fines so that there is no more desire or intention to do it again or else take them to trial with imprisonment, although they seem "exaggerated", depending on the circumstances, this is how the punishment must be applied, and this is a serious and delicate situation that the country is going through, especially with the energy crisis.

  8. It is a pity that corruption has penetrated so deeply into this society. You say in Havana? You have to go around the other provinces. This is not the way to move forward ?

    • While the gas shortage worsens in Cuba, reports of diversion of resources and corruption in the distribution network continue to generate indignation among the population!!!; let them pass by the points of Camagüey, here the verbal abuse of the liquefied gas personnel is horrible, the diversions and corruption to 1000.
