The upward trend of the past few weeks continues and now the US dollar is rising more rapidly. These are today's exchange rates.
This Thursday, April 4th, the main foreign currencies start the day with significant movements in the informal market of Cuba, according to the real-time monitoring published by El Toque.
The price of the US dollar experiences a rise of 2 pesos compared to the previous day, while the euro also increases in value. In contrast, the MLC continues to decline.
The euro strengthens against the dollar
The euro rises to 365 CUP, gaining 5 pesos in just 24 hours. This increase not only reflects its strength on the island but also its rebound against the dollar globally. In international markets, the euro is trading above 1.08 USD, driven by expectations of monetary stability in Europe.
Compared to that, the dollar in the Cuban informal market reaches 360 CUP, with an increase of 2 pesos. The difference between the two currencies widens to 5 Cuban pesos, indicating that the euro is once again consolidating as the strongest currency in Cuba.
MLC down and the Canadian dollar, stable
The MLC, used as a balance on cards for purchases in official stores, decreases by 2 pesos and is set at 270 CUP. The decline reflects the limited demand for this currency in a context of scarce supply in the retail market and distrust in the MLC store system.
Meanwhile, the Canadian dollar barely changes and remains at 227 CUP, after a slight decrease of 1 peso.

With an official minimum wage of 2,100 CUP, today a Cuban can barely buy 5.8 dollars or 5.7 euros in the informal market. In the case of the average salary, which is around 4,200 CUP, it barely amounts to 11.6 dollars or 11.5 euros.
These figures confirm the increasing inaccessibility of foreign currencies for most Cubans. And this is in a context of sustained inflation and persistent devaluation of the Cuban peso.
