Power outages announced for today in Cuba. Also in Havana, but only in some blocks and specific times.

Cuba's Electric Union reported an electricity generation deficit that will affect several sectors of Havana today.

The service experienced outages 24 hours a day due to low capacity. During the early morning hours, the impact continued, with a drop of 1,624 MW at 6:30 PM. This deficit was caused by the unexpected shutdown of unit 1 of the Santa Cruz CTE and the failure of the Moa motors to come online.

Current status of the service

Currently, the electricity availability is 1,580 MW, while the demand is 2,185 MW. This has caused an impact of 672 MW. By midday, the deficit is expected to rise to 1,050 MW. For peak hours, an availability of 1,930 MW and a demand of 3,250 MW are forecasted. This could result in a deficit of 1,320 MW and an impact of 1,390 MW.

Impacts in Havana

Today, the blocks in Havana will be affected at specific times. Between 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM, blocks 1 and 2 will be without electricity. Then, starting at 3:00 PM, the rotation will move to block 3 until 7:00 PM. From 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, it will be block 4's turn.

Population comments

Citizens have expressed their discontent. Complaints are multiplying due to the duration of the blackouts. Many highlight that the outage hours are long and affect their quality of life. A resident commented: "If they reduced the numbers, they should also reduce the hours of impact. We can't take it anymore." Others claim that official reports do not reflect reality: "They tell us the same thing every day, but the blackouts still last more than 15 hours," added another citizen.
