CBP warns immigrants: "If you stay, you will face fines, detention and deportation."

The United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP) launched a new message this Saturday directed at individuals in irregular immigration status in the country, urging them to voluntarily leave the territory.

Call to use the CBP Home app

People in an illegal situation in the United States have an opportunity to leave voluntarily. Use the CBP Home app. If you stay, you will face fines, detention, and deportation, warned the federal agency on its official X account (formerly Twitter).

This message is part of a broader campaign led by Donald Trump's government to strengthen actions against unauthorized immigration. The CBP Home app allows migrants to manage their voluntary departure before being detained or subjected to expedited removal processes.

Strengthening of immigration control

The public notice coincides with the tightening of immigration policies across the country. In recent weeks, thousands of migrants have received notices to leave the United States before April 24th, a key date following the revocation of humanitarian parole for nationals of Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua, and Haiti.

Since the beginning of the year, the Department of Homeland Security has reiterated that individuals without legal immigration status will be prioritized for detention and subsequent deportation.

Authorities emphasize that those who choose to leave voluntarily could avoid serious immigration records. This can facilitate potential future processes, while those who stay risk severe penalties.

Increase in voluntary departures

Official sources have confirmed that since the informational campaign began, thousands of migrants have started their exit procedures through the app. However, human rights advocacy groups have questioned the lack of legal assistance during these processes and the widespread fear it causes among affected communities.
