Attention immigrants in California: ICE prepares mass arrests in Los Angeles

Federal authorities are preparing one of the largest immigration raids in Los Angeles, according to documents leaked to the press.

The operation, scheduled for the coming days, will involve agents from ICE, the FBI, and the DEA, and will focus on the detention of immigrants.

The news has generated concern and mobilization among the migrant community, which has begun to organize itself to respond and protect those who may be affected.

Immigrants prepare to face the raid

After the raid plan was leaked, more than 60 organizations in California have formed the "Community Self-Defense Coalition," which aims to protect immigrants and block operations in neighborhoods and public places.

If they try to detain our people, we will surround them and prevent them from taking them away," said a spokesperson for one of the organizations.

Groups of activists plan to patrol the streets and alert the community about any suspicious movement by immigration agents. Additionally, they have asked immigrants not to open the door to strangers and to demand court orders signed by a judge in the event of an ICE intervention in their homes.

Mass raids: part of Trump's plan

Since January, the administration of Donald Trump has intensified immigration raids in various cities across the country as part of its strategy to increase deportations.

The president has insisted that the arrests of irregular immigrants must be accelerated, and has ordered that at least three large operations be carried out in different cities each week.

Los Angeles, as one of the largest sanctuary cities in the U.S., has become a key target of these raids.

Concern about impact on the community

The announcement has generated fear and concern among immigrants, who fear that the presence of ICE will affect their jobs, access to education, and the safety of their families.

On social media, hundreds of people have expressed their distress over the news. Among the most recurring comments are:

  • They want to make us live in fear, but we are not going to stand idly by.
  • “It is not fair that they go after hardworking people who are only seeking a better future.”
  • Politicians don't care about the harm they cause us with these raids.

Some immigrants have pointed out that, out of fear of being detained, they have stopped going out to work or taking their children to school.

What to do if you face an ICE raid?

Human rights organizations recommend that immigrants follow these steps in case of a raid:

  1. Do not open the door if ICE agents arrive at your home.
  2. Request a court order signed by a judge before allowing any entry.
  3. Remain silent and do not answer questions about your immigration status.
  4. Do not sign any document without the presence of a lawyer.
  5. Contact legal support organizations immediately.

The operation in Los Angeles could be one of the largest in the city's recent history, but the immigrant community is determined to resist and defend themselves against what they consider an unjust persecution policy.
