Latest news about DOGE's $$5000 stimulus check

The $1,750 stimulus check would be possible thanks to the cuts in "unnecessary expenses" since Trump came to power.

The potential $5,000 economic assistance per person, linked to the so-called "DOGE dividend", has not been finalized yet, but it could happen in the near future.

Elon Musk, head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), admitted in the last hours that the awaited stimulus check now only depends, ultimately, on a political decision that has not yet been made.

"The Congress and the president are the ones who will decide whether that stimulus check is issued," Musk said, making it clear that it is not in his hands to ensure that the money reaches the citizens' pockets. He added that reducing unnecessary spending "will benefit the economy," but did not confirm whether that will translate into a direct payment.

The DOGE, an office in retirement

The uncertainty about the check comes at a time when the DOGE seems to be coming to an end. Although it was theoretically supposed to operate until July 4, 2026, sources close to the White House claim that its dismantling has already begun. Many of its employees have been transferred to other federal agencies, and personnel cuts are already being implemented in various government offices.

Donald Trump himself hinted at this possibility by saying that "at some point Musk will return to lead his companies and DOGE will end." The comment comes as Tesla faces a 13% drop in its sales during the first quarter of the year, a setback that could require the full attention of its founder.

Musk fails in Wisconsin and his departure seems imminent.

Elon Musk also suffered a political setback last week. Despite spending over 21 million dollars on a campaign to reach the Wisconsin State Supreme Court, he lost to a lesser-known rival. Following his defeat, he hinted that he would soon step down from his position in the government: "We have come a long way, but there is still a lot of work to be done."

These words fuel the feeling that the DOGE project, created to slim down bureaucracy and cut expenses, could end without ever delivering the supposed checks promised as "dividends" of public savings.

The stimulus check that hasn't arrived

Since Trump appointed Musk to lead DOGE, rumors circulated about a possible one-time payment distribution of up to $5,000 to compensate the public for cuts in government spending. However, neither the White House nor Congress has ever approved a law making that payment official.

Musk insisted that "making public spending more efficient reduces the inflation tax" and stated that "it will be better for everyone if resources are not wasted." But for millions of Americans hit by inflation, that long-term promise does not replace the immediate relief they were hoping to receive.

Is the DOGE stimulus check canceled?

Although the idea was never formalized in Congress, the program generated high expectations. Many were expecting a direct transfer like the one received during the pandemic years, and used the supposed payment in personal calculations.

Now, without a clear confirmation, and with DOGE in the process of dismantling, everything seems to indicate that the $5,000 stimulus check will not arrive. At least, not under the current administration and not without a new legislative push that, for now, is not on the table.
