Cuba: Havana-Holguin Train Derailment Reported

The pro-government media reported on Sunday night the derailment of the train in Cuba. Holguín-Habana, which so far left no serious injuries. 

Train Extra 16, in charge of passenger transportation on the Holguín-Habana route, suffered a derailment this April 13 at 6:20 p.m. in the locality of Balcón, Las Tunas province, while it was traveling on the Central Line, stated in its profile on Facebook the pro-government reporter Lázaro Manuel Alonso.

The incident affected one of the locomotive's wheels, with no personal injuries reported among passengers, other than the occasional scare and minor bumps, according to network reports.

As confirmed by the authorities, no visible damage to the structure of the cars or the locomotive was observed.

Last night, train crews kept passengers informed while work was being done to restore train traffic in the area.

Train Derailment in Cuba

Late on Sunday, according to the same reporter, the Havana-Holguin train had been re-railed and railroad specialists were working hard to normalize traffic as soon as possible.

In addition, an investigative commission was on site to determine the causes of the derailment of this train in Cuba, as part of the protocol established by the Ministry of Transportation and Railways on the island.

Present at the site of the incident were executives of Ferrocarriles de Cuba, the Railway Transportation Administration, local government authorities, as well as members of the PNR and the Minint.

Regarding the incident where fortunately no human lives were lost, the authorities apologized to passengers for the inconveniences caused and assured the continuity of these and other routes paralyzed after the Ferrocarriles de Cuba accident.
