Russia wants to send half a million tourists a year to Cuba

Russia aims to become the leading country sending tourists to Cuba in the coming years and to dethrone Canada from that position. At least that is what they want, and to achieve this, they have set the goal of sending at least half a million tourists per year. The Russian government and the island's government are creating all the conditions for this.

According to reports from the revista Russian Sputnik, this week at the business meeting between entrepreneurs from both countries, new projects were announced to increase the annual visits of Russian tourists to half a million, especially to the tourist hubs of Varadero, Cayo Coco, and Havana.

I support the desire of Cuba's Minister of Tourism, Juan Carlos García, in his goal to increase the flow of tourists from Russia to 500,000 per year; in this way, Russia could reach the top, surpassing the most developed destination of Canada. With joint efforts, I am confident that we will achieve it," said Russia's Deputy Prime Minister, Dmitri Chernishenko.

To this end, starting July 1st, commercial flights from Moscow to Varadero will resume, operated by the Aeroflot fleet. Meanwhile, the Nordwind charter will continue connecting to Varadero and Cayo Coco as before. As if that were not enough, an exclusive hotel for Russian visitors is also expected to be built in Havana, a project we had already mentioned in these pages.

The highest number of Russians who have come to Cuba is 178,000 in one year, and this year we expected to surpass the 200,000 Russians mark," added the tourism executive in Cuba.
