They launch the first Cuban Artificial Intelligence (AI) platform.

The Cuban small and medium-sized enterprise Avangio, specialized in the software development, presented this Thursday SocIA, the first Cuban Artificial Intelligence Platform (IA).

According to the authorities, this innovative tool created on the island will allow simultaneous work with files of text, audio, and video. 

What is SocIA and how does it work? SocIA was designed as an integrated system that complements other solutions of Artificial Intelligence developed by Avangenio, for example, NosWork, which is a digital system for the teamwork, both remotely and in person.

There is also ERPNextm, a tool that facilitates business management and the integration of various areas within an organization.

Likewise, from the official side, specified that the platform is accessible from any device, whether a mobile, computer, or tablet, and its applications range from the pure sciences to social sciences.

Plans and availability of SocIA, the Cuban AI platform 

According to official information, SocIA will be available under three subscription options. Basic, the Team and Enterprise. However, other key aspects such as the release date, its availability to the general or business public, and the payment methods for subscription options, magnetic card usage, etc., were not detailed.

The launch of SocIA is part of a process of computerization and technological innovation driven by the Cuban government to optimize various processes amid the current economic crisis.

The world is moving very fast and we cannot fall behind. For a country like ours, artificial intelligence is the deciding factor. We have potential because, regardless of infrastructure and all that (…) this is about knowledge and preparation. It's like in biotechnology, where we were able to catch up with the world in a short time," said the Cuban president Miguel Díaz-Canel recently.

So far, the development of the Inteligencia Artificial en Cuba was led by state entities and universities, in collaboration with other countries, especially China.

However, the incursion of private SMEs as Avangenio demonstrates the growing role of the private sector in the country's digital transformation or in what is projected as the first Cuban AI platform.
