Caravan with 15,000 migrants heading to the United States: "the largest in history," reports say

A long caravan of around 15,000 migrants departed from southern Mexico towards the United States border. 

“Personas en sillas de ruedas, madres con bebés en brazos” salieron desde Tapachula (frontera con Guatemala) con el objetivo llegar a Piedras Negras, reported para Univisión Noticias el periodista Pedro Ultreras. 

Según cuenta, la gran mayoría de los migrants son venezolanos (el 80 o 90 %, asegura).

“Es la caravana más larga, más asistida que me ha tocado cubrir”, dice.

El recorrido es muy largo. Miembros de la caravana manifestaron que las autoridades mexicanas les prometieron autobuses para ayudarles en su traslado. 

Según reseña la agencia EFE, “las caravanas de migrantes en la frontera sur de México se han vuelto imparables, ya que sus integrantes buscan salir caminando todos los días de Tapachula en busca de otras oficinas de regularización migratoria donde puedan obtener sus documentos”.
