Whether it is a problem of oil theft, of the decrease in grammage, of the raw material that is old, of the extenders used in its production... The story of the poor quality of bread in Cuba has no end in sight.
Whitish as in the image sent to our page. Cuban DirectoryIt's a flip-flop-shaped, barely shelled, the size of a flash drive... It's enough for a headline every day. And it would be boring.
Recently, a Cuban executive's statements on the taste of bread, which is often described by the population as "cockroachy", went viral.
Specifically, the production director of the Empresa Provincial de Alimentos in Matanzas, Daniel Yon Aguiar, admitted to the press that there is indignation among the population because of the poor quality of the bread, especially because of its unpleasant smell, which they compare to that of cockroaches.
In the television program "Con Voz de Pueblo: Producción del Pan en la Provincia de Matanzas", of Telecentro TV Yumurí, the official referred to these criticisms of the poor quality of bread in Cuba.
No solution in sight for Cuba's poor bread quality
He explained that the situation is due to the use of wheat that comes from state reserves and is stored in silos that do not have the necessary conditions for quality, odor, stability, etc.
Then, he said the most controversial phrase: "People compare it to cockroaches, but no one has ever eaten a cockroach. It's the smell of aged cereal and no, it's not a pleasant smell."
"The bread is a mess. Even the sandwich maker doesn't make it any better," they told us. "I have no choice but to chop it up and make it into toast, but it still sucks," added another reader about the poor quality of the bread from the winery in Cuba.
