Minimum wage will increase in 2024 for residents of this US state

Varios estados del país han incrementado el salario de sus residentes en lo que va de año 2024. Justo, en California, por ejemplo, el presente cursó comenzó con notables modificaciones en cuanto a los citados ingresos mensuales. 

En enero el sueldo básico subió de $15.50 USD por hora a $16.00 USD exactos por idéntico período trabajado. No obstante, aún se espera un cambio sustancial en este aspecto.

Who will benefit?

Those who will have a direct benefit will be the employees of the large fast food chains that operate in California. 

Precisely, that salary adjustment is planned for April of this year. Then, those workers will earn 20.00 USD per hour, a monthly salary that is quite significant compared to the wages of previous years.

Cost increase

Se estima que el mencionado aumento salarial para los empleados de las grandes cadenas de comida rápida provoque un efecto dominó. ¿Por qué? Esto desencadenaría una ola de incrementos de sueldo en otras áreas de servicios.  

Sobre el tema abordó el diario The San Diego Union-Tribune. “Es probable que tenga un efecto dominó en una serie de precios para el consumidor, desde el costo de salir a cenar hasta el mantenimiento de su jardín”. 

Daniel Enemark, chief economist of the San Diego Center for Regional Policy and Innovation, also offered his opinion to the same media outlet.

The new minimum wage in a sector like fast food, with some of the lowest wages in the economy and fewer training and experience requirements, will become the real minimum wage.  

The expert added that "it becomes an alternative for someone with a salary below 20.00 USD because they know they can get a higher salary in fast food.

So it is going to be very difficult for employers to recruit workers for positions that offer less than $20.00 per hour.”
